Los Angeles Surf Forecast - For Thursday - 1/07/10

Make sure to read the full region forecast...it will help this one make sense, (Not promising any miracles though). Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

Our surf looks pretty weak through the morning…mostly leftover energy with some weak S-SW swells still struggling in from the Southern Hemi. Expect most spots in North County to be around ankle-knee high, the more protected the spot the smaller it will be. The best N. LA spots see some waist high sets through the morning.

The South Bay will also start off on the small side…most waves will be in the knee-waist high range with a few chest high sets showing at the standouts. Look for the size to start to come up through the day…likely putting a few shoulder-head high sets into the best breaks by the late afternoon.

Winds look good…mostly light offshore for the morning and just a light/variable onshore pushing through in the afternoon. Good chance for those winds to lay down as the sun sets.

Here are the tides…

  1. Hi Adam,
Question about tides. I know there's "swamped", "drained", rising, dropping, slack, etc. and it all depends on the particular surf spot what tidal conditions are ideal for it. However, I was wondering what some generalizations are for the numerous tidal conditions? i.e. tidal push = bigger waves but mushier shape (am I wrong?) and dropping = steeper faces with maybe more walled shape (again, I'm just guessing here, hence my question to you)
    Thanks!
